History of Capital Gymnastics
Capital Gymnastics started at Wellington Girls College in the early 1970's as an after-school and weekend program offering girls’ artistic and rhythmic competitive gymnastics. The club was originally called Capital Girls Gymnastics Club and had 15 gymnasts. The gym equipment needed to be completely set-up and collapsed for each session. In 1998 premises were leased at 150 Hutt Road, Kaiwharawhara.
In October 2008 Capital Gymnastics (renamed Capital GymSports) moved to the National School of Dance and Drama at 11 Hutchison Road, Newtown.
In November 2011, Capital Gymnastics moved into their current venue within the Hutchison Road, Te Whaea complex.
Capital Gymnastics has recently moved into two spaces in the Wellington Indoor Sports area and are continuing to expand. Our members now enjoy more equipment and a more spacious area for training and playing.
Structure of Capital Gymnastics
Capital Gymnastics is a non-profit organization and is run by a committee made up of volunteers. This committee consists of the following: a president, treasurer, secretary, competition secretary, and also includes several parents. There is an annual general meeting each year where members will be asked to nominate people for the committee and then at the meeting vote and appoint members to the roles on the committee.
Parent Support
The Club's Committee are always on the look out for member, so if you are interested in joining please contact the office on office@capitalgymnastics.nz Please look out for any fundraising activities in your email and Facebook communications.
Income and Fundraising
Capital Gymnastics generates income from three main sources: term fees, community grants, and fundraising activities. Term fees cover the majority of our operational costs. Community grants are applied for specific items (e.g. rent, or pieces of equipment). Fundraising activities include our annual Capital Juniors Competition and Central Competitions, as well as the occasional Saturday morning sausage sizzle.
