History

Capital Gymnastics started at Wellington Girls College in the early 1970's as an after-school and weekend program offering girls’ artistic and rhythmic competitive gymnastics.  The club was originally called Capital Girls Gymnastics Club and had 15 gymnasts.  The gym equipment needed to be completely set-up and collapsed for each session.  In 1998 premises were leased at 150 Hutt Road, Kaiwharawhara.

In October 2008 Capital Gymnastics (renamed Capital GymSports) moved to premises at the National School of Dance and Drama at 11 Hutchison Road, Newtown.  Capital GymSports now has a membership of over 700.

In November 2011 Capital GymSports moved into our current venue within the Hutchison Road Te Whaea complex.  Our members now enjoy more space, more equipment and improved spectator seating.
